The Route

The Canal Streetcar is Route #42 (replacing the Canal-Cemeteries bus line).

The route starts at Esplanade and the river. Following the existing Riverfront trackage, the streetcars head to Canal Street, turning right there onto Canal.  The route is then similar to the existing Canal-Cemeteries bus line--the streetcar’s main line makes a straight shot up Canal to a terminal at City Park Avenue.  A spur will open (projected March, 2004), where the streetcar will turn right onto N. Carrollton Avenue and go down to Beauregard Circle (in front of the New Orleans Museum of Art).
