The New Streetcars

2001 on Canal Street.  The car runs on Canal from the river to the corner of Baronne.  Fare is a quarter, until the rest of the line is operational.

The design of the new streetcars is loosely based on the classic Perley Thomas cars running on the St. Charles line.  The prototype car, 2001 (above), was constructed in 1998. There are 23 cars in the production run, making a total of 24 cars that will go into service when the line opens.
